Practical Potty Training Tips And Advices

Potty training is a process that many parents don't look forward to. It can be a difficult time if not done correctly and with the right attitude. Here are some practical potty training tips and advices that can make this time much easier for you and your toddler.

First, you need to keep in mind that you cannot just go by the age of your child. Two and half is the average age, but many toddlers begin earlier and others start later. Every child is different and you will need to determine when they are ready by their actions. Keep an eye out for indications that indicate they are ready.

Some of the indications to look for include being aware that they are wet or soiled and wanting clean dry clothing. If they are capable of staying dry for a couple of hours at a time and show an interest in wearing training pants they are probably ready. Two good indications to look for that will indicate your child is ready for potty training is an interest in the bathroom and the ability to dress themselves in simple outfits. It makes it much easier when they are able to follow simple instructions as well. This makes it easier for you to explain what they need to do.

The best time to begin potty training your child is in the summer because there is less clothing for them to have to deal with. This makes it easier and less stressful for the child. Usually they have only a few seconds to get to the bathroom before it is too late. Therefore, anything that makes it quicker for them makes it easier as well. All children have a tendency to want to stay dry, so if you allow them to wear training pants that lets them feel the wetness, this can help them to learn when it is time to use the potty.

Potty training takes time and patients so pick a time when you will have the time to be consistent. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time and have to keep starting the process over and over until you can be persistent. Each child learns at their own speed therefore, you cannot compare one child to another or rush the process. It is a skill that will develop according to their individual growth pattern. Never yell or punish your child for having an accident, this is normal and will happen many times. Do however, praise your child for a job well done, this will encourage them to continue. Most of all make this a fun time for your toddler and it will be easier and more pleasant for everyone.
